Rearranging....

Well now that most of the projects are wrapping up (or so I thought) we have been trying to pull out house back together. But I just kept getting hung up on the placement of furniture. My sister Kami has 'the eye' and I kidnapped her on Sunday to come redo our arrangement. She space our furniture, when we lived in the upstairs of our house, perfectly. As shown in the picture, that has been seen many times, below.
I had our couch next to some built in shelves, but it was just too heavy in that corner of the room.
And the table behind the couch was just okay.
Well in 30 minutes Kami (pronounced like Amy with a K., Remember that name, she's going to be famous when we start a staging company) transformed our home.
Flipping couches around, angling chairs, unrolling carpets, widdling small dolls out of wood. You name it she did it! And I am in awe. I would have never placed furniture where she placed it, but some how after she does it, it's like... How did I not think of that, it was just meant to be there.
She even convinced me to keep a rug I thought might be too loud.
Then she put a painting over the mirror and made this side table complete. It always looked like it was missing something. (This side table is my next project. It was given to me by a family I nanny for, and I want to put silver leaf on it.)

So it looks like this. (I cannot remember where I found this picture. So if anyone knows let me know so I can site it and give them credit.) Kami's (Amy with a K. Keep up with me) next stop was the built in shelf unit. That I have hated for as long as we have lived here.
My pathetic attempt to decorate, it is much better here then what it was a year ago, bleak.
Kami's vision which will be complete after pictures are developed, and those 2 cream frames are painted black... There might be something else but I'm not sure. Kam, (that's what I call her. Like aim with a K. I think your getting it ; ) ) I'll call you tomorrow to check. Now to the bedroom.
Our sad little dresser top. A stolen picture from my mom. Even though she said I could borrow it, but now denies it. And sand from out honeymoon in the Bahamas. It just needed something more. So perhaps you remember this nasty mirror from our bathroom. That Drew literally with his two hands ripped from the wall. Well I cleaned it off and found a new home.
A perfect resting spot for my perfumer. It's like I have my very own Nordstrom.
Of course Kami came in and adjusted everything.
Even put my perfume at a perfect angle. For a final touch she even found a perfect home for our H that my friend Carly made for me.
And just as quickly as she appeared, she was gone... In a whirlwind of style and grace... Thanks Kami for finally making our house feel adjusted. In other news I got my peg board hung and bathroom organized.
Finally some method to the madness. Now all I have to do, after all said projects are completed, is paint this rocking chair. I think I found the perfect blue.
Another Martha Stewart special... Should be just delightful.
So much to do....

Peg Board

This has been my favorite project so far. I saw a peg board jewelry holder online. I liked it but I didn't love it. I loved the idea of displaying your jewelry on a darling board. So we got to work.
Drew had some extra baseboard from a room remodel he did. So he cut it into a frame for me, and we glued it up. I found the perfect paint color at Home Depot. (Yes, sometimes we just call it home.) It is from The Martha Stewart paint line.
Online they hung their jewelery up on metal hooks, but I got to thinking. And came up with KNOBS!!! So I scurried down to Anthropologie again and bought more knobs!
I absolutely LOVE my peg board!
And my tiny birdie friend in the corner.
I haven't quite figured out the best placement for the knobs but here it is with jewelry. It makes me happy every time I see it.

***Yellow***

Happy 200th post to me and to anyone who has stuck with my blog! Well I finally got my yellow!
The redd table worked perfectly with our old couches. After we got our free couches we needed another change. This may be our annual tradition, painting the table a new color.
This is a better visual of the color before. It was actually after I had finished sanding.
When I first opened the can of paint I was not so sure.
But I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it turned out! I tried a glaze on it, but didn't love it.
Then I went to Anthropologie and bought a knob to top it off.
Like a match made in heaven.
I can't get over how much I love it. It has brightened up our whole room! Fabulous! Now stay tuned for my 201st post to see what I'm doing with these knobs.
The suspense is killing you... I know right!!

Dog Beds

Have you looked at dog beds lately? More specifically dog beds that will fit 2 ponies? Well I have. And they are EXPENSIVE! So I found some pool chair lounger pads (do you follow?) Now all I needed was a cover, seeing as how my dogs spend most of their days trying to figure out how to carry in as much dirt into the house as possible. So I spent a lot of time cruising around fabric stores and contemplating the meaning of a 'yard'. Anyway.... Turns out fabrics way expensive. Sooo... After I bought a new duvet cover for our bed I decided to use our old one for slipcovers for the dog beds.
I bought new pins that were super pretty! Pretty things always make projects more enjoyable. So I dusted off the sewing machine my granny gave me. Took a quick look at a YouTube video on how thread my sewing machine and I was off!
And they fit perfectly! With just a tiny bit of fabric left over!
So after all of my hard work to show appreciation to me the dogs stepped over the beds, and crammed themselves into Cleo's kennel.
Seriously?! Oh well! How cute are they? The Loooove each other!

The Bed!

Well I have been on the hunt for the perfect baskets to go in my new bed. And then I stumbled upon these boxes at Ikea.
Two boxes for $11. It's like they were made just for my bed! Law of Attraction strikes again!
Perfect!

White on White

Our washer and dryer are a mismatched set. One white and one yellow. Although they work wonderfully.... I hated them. I'm naturally a very symmetrical person. I like balance and uniform. And come on... Who wouldn't be a little thrown off by a yellow dryer and a white washer?
Blah! So one day I cracked. I ran to my local Super Market (Smith's, sometimes I feel as if I have seen way too much of the good people at Home Depot, so I mix it up!) and bought appliance spray paint. And although I am pretty sure I should have opened a window or worn a mask. I LOVE how it turned out.
It actually took me two cans to get it all covered. Looking back I would have researched a primer to block the yellow color first.
The can that saved my sanity!

PS Our bed was put up on Knockoffwood.blogspot.com, and now I REALLY wish I would have steamed the sheets! agh!

Look What My Drew Can Do!

Well the moment you have so anxiously been awaiting! This project took a little bit longer to complete because mid build we started 5.... Yes 5 other projects (yes this is the reason you have not heard from us)! Anyway... I have always wanted this bed from Pottery Barn. However for a king size version it is almost $2000! Yikes.
The Stratton Bed from Pottery Barn. Then I found this website. Knockoffwood.blogspot.com. And she has all the measurments and steps laid out how to make knock of versions of popular furniture!
So little Drewpal got to work!
And the finished project! The best part is that the bed is basically just 3 bookshelves. So if you don't want it as a bed any more you can stack them or use them side by side.
The bed turned out amazing! Thanks so much Drew!!
And p.s. sorry if you're like me and all you can see in the picture above is a wrinkled sheet. I know! Makes me cringe too. Not enough to actually steam it. ( I wanted to but Drew said no.)
p.s.s. more on the other 5 projects to come! It's going to blow your mind!
