Lieutenant Colonel Max L. Combe USAF-RET
Max Lowell Combe, husband, father, and grandfather passed away August 20, 2008 at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born May 10th, 1927 in Ogden, Utah to Inga and Henry Combe. He attended Washington Elementary/Jr. High School. He also attended Ogden High School where he met his wife-to-be Marceline Smith.
He enlisted in the Naval Air Corps during World War II in his senior high school year in 1945. After the war he attended the U of U and during this time also was a member of the 210th Tow Tgt Sq, UANG in SLC. He was recalled into the USAF during the Korean conflict in 1951 and was sent to Korea to serve in the 17th Bomb Wing.
After the war he returned to school and was offered a full time Position with the ANG. This eventually became his career, creating a new active duty unit and becoming the first Commander of the 299th Range Control Sq., assigned to duty at Hill AFB, UT.
He accumulated a total of 35 years in the military service to his country with many overseas and service related decorations.
He is survived by his wife, Marceline and three children, David, Kathryn (Redd) and Jeffrey. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
