Cleo....

“Dogs are my favorite role models. I want to work like a dog, doing what I was born to do with joy and purpose. I want to play like a dog, with total, jolly abandon. I want to love like a dog, with unabashed devotion and complete lack of concern about what people do for a living, how much money they have, or how much they weigh. The fact that we still live with dogs, even when we don't have to herd or hunt our dinner, gives me hope for humans and canines alike.”

The Solution...

I have been perplexed how to store our dog food. Now that we are hoarding animals in an 800 sq/ft apartment... And have one dog on adult and two on puppy... Storing two 40 lb bags, in am aesthetically pleasing manner is not easy.... Then I thought about a file cabinet... Started looking online for sizes, uses etc... And found this picture! Perfect! Then I went thrifting.... And found this beauty... File cabinets new are pretty pricey... So this one at $15 was quite a steal... The guy who came out to help me said, "oh this was on sale yesterday, I'll give it to you for $1...." Even after two others told him he couldn't he walked up to the front with me and insisted the sell it for $1.00! Awesome...

So I drove home (aka picked up a 32 ouncer of DC...) Threw some Dog bones to the animals, dusted off this can of rust-oleum white enamel spray paint I've had hanging around... Who knows what unfinished project it was originally for? Whatevs!

So I sanded with my sponge sander. My favorite way to sand...

Sprayed into the wind.... Awesome.... Once I start something, I can't be bothered by a little wind...

Drewpy got home and measured and cut some butcher block we had extra from our countertops... So far I'm still only out $1.00 on this project... And my soul after Drewpy stole it with this picture I took below.... Don't!

This is what I get when I ask Drew to smile like he loves projects.... He must really like them.... Hide yo kids, hide yo wives and hide yo husbands.....

Then I graduated from helper to worker when Drew let me touch one of his tools, and I routed the edges of the butcher block to give it a pretty profile.

Then easy-peasy... I did four globs (and a heart in the middle for good measure) of silicone onto the file cabinet... Pressed the butcher block on and let it sit....

Pretty routed profile....

The next day Drewpy brought out his sexy legs to play... And screwed on a sheet of melamine, with some self tapping metal screws.... That you guessed it we had left over.... This melamine gave the file cabinet more sturdiness and a place to screw the casters on...

I wanted fun casters but Home Depot was slim pickins...

Casters on, flip her over, and voila!

Puppy food on bottom, adult on top with extra room for waste bags, collars, leashes etc! Ahhhh-MAH-zing....

And when I need it... It's extra prep space can be wheeled out like an island....

Please only take notice of the file cabinet island, not the patched walls, cluttered counter, or dusty floors.... Just the file cabinet.... Nothing else to see here! What do you think?...

Turf Toe....

Have you ever experienced turf toe? Drew and I were on a bike ride with the pooches... I was wearing flip flops.... Obviously the best biking apparel... And I pushed up on my big toe.... And POP! Turf toe!

I spent the weekend with a toe like this... Bobby's World style... And you know what we never have lying around? Ice packs.... I found this little beauty on pinterest... A DIY gel ice pack.

Basically you put dish soap in a ziplock bag.... Put that bag in a bag.... Get all the air out... Pop it in the freezer.... Boom... Ice pack...

So keep that little treasure in your back pocket for the next time you try to ram your heel into your big toe...

Bathroom Door....

Drewpy and I have been taking the whole "open floor plan" to the extreme... Bathroom door? What? Who needs one? How would we be able to carry on flawless conversation from the living room to the bathroom? Not miss a beat while watching Gossip Girl, and using the restroom? And my personal favorite.... How could I throw an ice cold cup of water on Drew while he's taking a shower, while I stand in the hallway? Well we decided it was time.... We found a beautiful door. Almost 100 years old with the most beautiful beveled glass. We got it off of this house that Drew worked on... 'Member that?

Drew built a door jamb.... What? You can build those.... Apparently! Who knew? Then trimmed our beautiful solid wood and glass door to fit the opening perfectly....

Beautiful... I am going to hang a ruffled curtain over the door, that can be opened to display our bathroom-of-tile-wonderland... Remember my bathtub window to provide light? We still don't have it installed.... But now do you see my direct shot of cup o' ice water vs Defenseless Drew in the shower.... Being married is fun.

Drew routing, the original keyhole, and another shot of Drewpy and his luscious locks. Love that guy!

The Angel.... Of Destruction... Polly.

Let's just say Drew and I have different techniques on how to train and raise dogs. Polly is Drew's dog, goes to work with him in most days... Cleo and Mac are mine.... Balanced? Hmm.... Anyway, Polly is never pleased when Drew leaves her behind. Even worse then when we both leave. Drew refused to let me crate train her... So he would leave her in our room with the door closed. Cleo is fine to free roam and I crate trained Mac... So no destruction on their parts...

We were constantly coming home to fun new holes in our bedroom walls! What? No, Polly, don't!

Polly photo bombing on her handiwork! I hesitated to post this, because I in no way want to condone or make people think it is okay to have a dog and just keep them outside. Don't have a dog if that's what you are going to do. Anyway.... There are occasions when we have to run an errand and don't want to keep the dogs cooped up inside. I repeat, when we are home the dogs are with us, this isn't a replacement for walks or exercise.

We have a shed in our backyard pretty beat, but has 4 insulated walls. We installed an air conditioner and a dog door.

We put some chain link for a little outdoor area! And boom! Polly do your worst!

Saving our walls!

Just to prove our dogs are indoor dogs, Cleo is showing the best seat in the house.

And these two..... All night long cuddle fest.... Seriously love each other!

A Giant Water Bag....

I saw on pinterest this giant water bag. Drew needed to run to Home Depot for some supplies so we tagged along and bought some plastic sheeting and Duck Tape...

The littles helped unroll the 10X25 sheet...

it was bigger then I had pictured. Ha!

We folded it in half and taped off the three open sides, leaving one corner open for the hose.

Filled with water.....

And fun for all! I ended up twisting the corners and taping them off. Corners had little leaks.

The kids loved it. Despite the kid with the striped shirts scowl.... Who is he? I don't know.... Seriously just showed up to enjoy.... No parents.... What? Good summer fun!
