Fate...

"Well this is fate... She's divorced, we don't want to redo the cabinets and you need a new wife! What do the. Call it when everything intersects?"
"The Bermuda Triangle..."
(You've Got Mail)
I had an amazing moment with fate yesterday. I have been loving these brass trunks for a long long long time. I just couldn't imagine where to happen upon one, let alone how much it would cost! I was supposed to meet a client to look at some tile, but last minute the had to reschedule. So last minute I was in the car about to get on the freeway. No biggie, I guess I'll just stop. Y Savers since I'm here...
And what do I spy? For $5..... Are you kidding me? Of course this treasure had to be instagrammed right away.

Pictures sent to my sister just to make sure I wasn't seeing things... It has some spots that need a little cleaning. The rest just gives it charm.

I walked the entire way to the register grinning from ear to ear. And a little worried someone would ambush me on my way there and still my treasure.

Here she is next to my favorite couch.

I love gooooollllldddddd!

Bathroom Update...

Drew built us a beautiful hutch for our bathroom. He built it in the wall so it sticks into the bathroom 3", but is actually 6" deep. We got this glass door entertainment center from a job Drew did. The link will take you back to Drew converting it into our vanity. I painted these while Drew was building this dog run. Because these are in our bathroom and I painted the tub sides in the same color, I got an oil based enamel paint. It's actually a porch or garage paint so it can withstand a lot of moisture and use.

I wanted the vanity door to have the reflective quality of glass, but be solid so you can't see all of our combs, towels, etc. I rolled it on with a foam roller, on the inside. I used a hair dryer to help the paint stick to the glass.

I love how it has a milk glass appearance. It gives the room great dimension.

I matched the oil based enamel paint to Martha Stewarts, Zinc. Hard to get a true color in the pictures. The one below shows it better than the close up.

Our built in still needs more shelves and doors, but it is looking so great. Drew out in a tiny recessed can light from Ikea and I am totally in love.

We are coming right along. Baseboard, ceiling painted, and we are pretty much done with this room! Hooray!

Cloffice Faux Wallpaper(Updated)

While doing my daily design search I came across this room.
(Here is the original picture I found...)
Designed by Katie Ridder. I can't remember where I originally saw this room, but found it again here. In our basement remodel we have expanded our closet sizes, by moving some walls and openings. More on that later.... In moving these closets I have made an office, within an office. The office closet, is turning into my "Cloffice".... I wanted to try this wallpaper on a much smaller scale, and by painting it, instead of actual wallpaper
I started out measuring out 1'x1' squares, and taped them off with 1.5" tape.
I bought this Martha Stewart Metallic Paint from Home Depot for $5. Then went to a craft store and picked up this dowel with foam round tip for $3. After I had the squares measured out, I put two strips of tape on a ruler, and dabbed paint on the ruler every 1.5". It ended up being 9 dots on every side.
After doing a few lines and rows I went through and marked all the corners, this helped me keep an eye if the dots were getting too close together.
It took a while, and quite a few Keeping Up With the Kardashians, on Netflix.... Question.... Why do these people have a reality show? Ah, what does it matter? Besides their use of the "r-word" they are a pretty funny family.... I get their humor.... Take that for what it's worth...
Dot after dot....
I am crazy about how it turned out! The metallic gold against the flat white is awesballs!
I moved in my $5 thrifted desk.... It needs a lot of work, but I love the shape. I'm just trying to decide how to finish it.

I have been in love with campaign furniture for a long time. And I think with the right hardware I could make it look similar to the one below. I would love to do a fun color like the green as well. Or maybe a peacock blue!
Doing an ombré finish would be less expensive, I would just need paint, no hardware etc, and I think this is a fun look. You can see my other office ideas (here).
And as always the pups were a HUGE help!
Final reveal also here...

Pooch Palace!

Drew built an awesome dog run... To make it custom Drew matched the existing slope of the roof, shingles and fascia.

Now it just needs paint that matches the exterior of the house, and it's perfect!

Fascia...

I think this pooch will be very pleased with his new place.... But again I have to emphasize dog runs aren't for full time living for your dog. Just when you need a safe place for them while you are gone for a short time.

.... awake ....

Oh man.... One of those nights.... You can't predict it, prevent it, or hide from it.... It's just going to be one of those nights that you watch the clock numbers grow.... Nights like these I just hope I'm not awake to see the windows get lighter....

I stayed in bed with Drew for an hour tonight willing myself to sleep.... Finally after yelling at Drew for sleeping so soundly.... How dare he... I wandered into the living room. After laying out here for 45 min in the dark, I decided to make a night of it.... Flipped on the t.v. to hear Gary making a very compelling argument, about why I needed some sort of erectile medicine.... Don't Gary! Anyway, I resisted 3 easy payments of $9.99....

But I did find this...

It's the dog in the cart that kills me.... He looks like he's way into the race, and keeps checking back to see if she is gaining on him. Silly pooches...

This one is self explanatory from the Seattle Childrens Hospital

And on a final lighter note.... The above picture is almost a daily conversation Drew and I have.... Why? Why did I spend so many countless hours, crying, worrying, being sick over junk like this?

Things I found while I couldn't sleep.... Enjoy!

The End is "Near"!

The end of our basement apartment is so close to being done I can taste it.... Or that just might be the Sheetrock dust.... Hmm... Drew has been phenomenal working on our house, after working 60+ hours a week at a highly labor intensive job.... Being patient with me as I find deals.... I want the look with out the price... We could have been done forever ago, but waiting for things we have wanted and for Drew to have the time has been a LOOOONG process... I have finally gathered more courage and will do more projects on my own. So far grouting tile has been the only thing Drew hasn't had a bunch of mistakes to point out... Oh well... They are getting done!

I am almost done painting our cabinets. I LOVE oil based paint. It comes out so smooth and shiny, and the enamel finish is so durable! My thrifted strainers look perfect on Drew's hand made shaker panel...

Have I blogged about this? Or just instagrammed? Huh.... So many social media options.... This is my favorite Anthropologie Sale find, on a window Drew removed from a house... I bought a chain and hook from Home Depot.... I love it. I like that the frame adds width, but you can still see the tile. Still love my $2 sq/ft, gift from Heaven tile. Question.... I know color translates differently in pictures, computers etc.... But... Drew calls this tile green! What? To me it is clearly brown?.... I believe I am right....

This is becoming my favorite corner of the house.... Maybe because it is the closest to completion....

Oops.... I need to replace that art light...
