Drop Cloth Reupholstered Chaise Lounge

We picked up this Chaise Lounger on ksl classifieds for $20 or $30. With the intention of just wanting the frame so I could try reupholstering. Polly got started on this project before I had time and started the tear down in the middle for me. Thanks pup!

I stripped it down to the bones and dismantled it. After getting. Look at the inside Drew and I are pretty confident we could make the frames and skip the stripping part.... But we both love a good strip.... What?

You can see above all the support this piece had were the strips. That wasn't doing anyone any favors. We had a sheet of OSB left over in our garage so Drew cut it to size.... We practice safety first.... Or we should at least.

Measured out where the button holes would go, and did a dry run with unfinished buttons.

Measured out the holes on the foam pad. And drilled through the OSB, and cut with a knife through the foam.

I got some thick string at Lowe's and purchased bright pink because it's fabulous!

I always seem to start projects before I have all the materials, and after the stores are closed. This project was no exception. I didn't have any needles, and had to tape the string to a sewing machine needle. Not too shabby!

Then I pulled the thread through the drop cloth, foam then OSB...

Darling buttons. Same color scheme as my ruffle bottom apron.

In hindsight, I would have pulled and stapled everything tighter then I initially thought. First timer learning curve. After this stage it was just basically a lot of pulling and stapling. And making sure to staple where they would not be seen. Next reupholstering project I want to get those little fabric claw things to hide the staples. I might also add some polished nickel studs on the bottom.

It was nice because the foam was $20 and the drop cloth was $11 so I wasn't too worried about messing up. It's not perfect, but I love it!

This will now be at the foot of our bed to hold our extra pillows at night, or Cleo has taken a liking to it. So maybe that means more room on the bed for us! Either way I see a WIN!

Oh Darling,

Let's be adventurers. I saw this quote/art here.... I had this old funky frame laying around.... So I found a font I liked and figured out how to print horizontal..... It seems like that should have been easier to figure out.... Drew and I talk often about the adventures we will go on, and the places we will see. Most of Drew's adventure day dreams start with, "It will be so fun to take the dogs to Europe... How do we. Get the dogs into Costa Rica..." um, what? All of my travel daydreams start with dropping the dogs off somewhere.... This boy and his dogs....

As of right now we will take any adventure that gets us out of our neighborhood.... A hike up to Stewart Falls by our cabin always hits the spot.... One of my favorite places...

To many more bigger and better adventures, and loving the little ones along the way!

Kids Ruffle Apron...

I needed a birthday present for some adorable 4 year olds. I had a drop cloth that I have been meaning to use for a while. All I did was eyeball how tall I wanted it about 15" hight. Then again eyeballed the curve for the arms. Ended up being about 5" down The top of the apron I did 2.5" centered. So all I did was fold over the apron, traced the curve and width of the top. Now the top was 5" wide.

To make the second apron, I just used the first as my template. I sewed up all the edges. A server would have been much more helpful. Then I made 4 rows of ruffles, using the directions from here. Basically, I sewed a loose straight stitch across the top. And then pulled the bottom thread so it scrunched the fabric together. Then pinned it across the bottom. And zig zag stitched them on the apron.

I sewed the ruffles down along the outside edges. Made some simple 1" strips from the drop cloth, sewed them to the tops and sides.

Made a simple square pocket for the from top.... I do not claim to be a seamstress and 4 year olds are usually pretty easy to please. Made out of material I already had at home, I'm pretty pleased with how they turned out.

Loving ruffles!

Trim....

We are now entering the fun part of our home renovation. TRIM!

I have been loving on this square trim for a while now. Above is shown with the detail inside each square.

And here are just the squares. We are doing the more intricate look, and I can't wait for it to be done!

We started out with some really fun math to try and figure out where all the trim would go and look the best. Then we dismantled our bed that Drew built, and Polly destroyed... Lovely... So our before was this...

This pic was obviously Pre Polly terror!

We are doing thus trim on a curved wall! Exciting! That made for an extra step in our process. We had to score the back of each horizontal piece so it curved with the wall. Brilliant Drewpy made a jig on his chop saw, so I could evenly score the strips with out cutting all the way through the wood.

We decided our bed was just too big and bulky for the room.... And a certain Polly nibbled on the corner. So we took the bed apart and reused it for this trim! Awesome!

During...

Now that we have all the big squares up we need to do the quarter round trim on the inside like we did with our beam in the Kitchen.

Love are tiny recessed art light from ikea. The trim will be accented perfectly with these lights.

...continue on this little journey>>>>

Song...

How adorable is this print? A while ago I happened on a blog that I fell entirely in with. She takes the most incredible pictures. Has the most adorable children especially her little girl... I have a soft spot in my heart for totally spunky, rambunctious, tomboy, girlie girls. Anyway.... They started in on a journey to add a special little one to their family. They are in the process of adopting a little girl from China. She hosted a fundraiser for her little ones orphanage. The goal was for an incubator for the premies... And when you donated Ashley offered a selection of prints as a thank you.

All the little girls in the orphanage are given the middle name of Song. That is what the themes were for these prints. Ashley was able to raise enough for the incubator, and for I believe 12 little ones to receive life changing surgeries!

Now this print full of good karma and special thoughts sits in my office. Life is good.

Painting My Dogs...

I love these Foo Dogs, or Fu Dogs... I think they are such a fun way to add a color to a room.
(via)

I found these gems in the sale section of Home Goods... Love how many times they were marked down.
I bought a can of enamel spray paint, and voila!
I seriously love this color! We haven't found the perfect spot for them yet... But I love them on my gold trunk!

My second project was a bigger pooch....
I love these regal pooches. I found a gold one right after our Dane Caesar died. It was a grief purchase... But then I started seeing these enamel hounds everywhere.

Drew just happened to have a can of white spray paint in his truck....
And now our Memorial to Caesar bear sits on our unfinished floor, next to beige walls.... (barf).... But I love that pooch!
