The Lipstick Trick

Drew and I have used the lipstick trick with hanging Sheetrock. It helps mark out where to cut existing lights, boxes etc. This time I used it to arrange my gallery wall. First you smear some old lipstick onto the piece of art you want to hang, where the nail will hold the piece. Then line up the piece on the wall, when it is where you want it press the piece against the wall.

It will leave you a guide right where your nail need to go. Sorry these pics are low quality, just had my phone on hand.

Look at that aim. And yes the only nails I could find were from Drew's roofing nailer.

I use this trick on everything. Canvas art...

These little jagged brackets.... And if you mess up, you just wipe it off and reapply.

Gallery Wall

I've been working on my office gallery wall. I've been doing odd and end art projects and collecting art off etsy for a while. Drew called me a hoarder, I told him to get me some walls to hold my (expletive).... Joking I most likely said stuff!

My abstract family portrait.

I actually found a four leaf clover in a park. I pressed it and modge podged it. I loaded up on frames from thrift stores, and gave them a fresh coat of paint. I used up some of the extra sample paints I had laying around. Otherwise I would have spray painted them. Spray painting would have been quicker and cleaner. You just can't beat FREE!

The red telephone card was a card from Anthropologie. I bought the DOGS, Golden Book off eBay after Caesar died. Miss that pooch.

This was a page from the book. Makes me cry every time.

I drew that flower line drawing a while ago. I like the simplicity. And oh my giraffe? My friend had one and I loved it so. I found it while shopping with my sister-in-law and brought it straight home. I think it might be cute to put some nickel reupholstery studs down his neck to hold necklaces. Right now I'm just enjoying him. Now to paint the brown dresser the perfect color.... What will that color be.

Kiss These Lips!

I drew/painted/colored(??) these lips with oil pastels.

I wanted them to pop more in an art piece for my gallery wall in the office. So I cut them out and painted a canvas with metallic gold folk art paint. The last layer I painted I out on an extra thick layer of paint.

I set the lips on and with fine tipped scissors I pressed in the lips to give it an embossed look. Muah!

Dog Lake... We have missed you!

The hike we have been longing for is finally open! Dog Lake is up Millcreek canyon.

The triple threat of pooches. This might sum up our summer! Happy Odd Days Are Dog Days!

Drop Cloth Reupholstered Chaise Lounge

We picked up this Chaise Lounger on ksl classifieds for $20 or $30. With the intention of just wanting the frame so I could try reupholstering. Polly got started on this project before I had time and started the tear down in the middle for me. Thanks pup!

I stripped it down to the bones and dismantled it. After getting. Look at the inside Drew and I are pretty confident we could make the frames and skip the stripping part.... But we both love a good strip.... What?

You can see above all the support this piece had were the strips. That wasn't doing anyone any favors. We had a sheet of OSB left over in our garage so Drew cut it to size.... We practice safety first.... Or we should at least.

Measured out where the button holes would go, and did a dry run with unfinished buttons.

Measured out the holes on the foam pad. And drilled through the OSB, and cut with a knife through the foam.

 

I got some thick string at Lowe's and purchased bright pink because it's fabulous!

I always seem to start projects before I have all the materials, and after the stores are closed. This project was no exception. I didn't have any needles, and had to tape the string to a sewing machine needle. Not too shabby!

Then I pulled the thread through the drop cloth, foam then OSB...

Darling buttons. Same color scheme as my ruffle bottom apron.

In hindsight, I would have pulled and stapled everything tighter then I initially thought. First timer learning curve. After this stage it was just basically a lot of pulling and stapling. And making sure to staple where they would not be seen. Next reupholstering project I want to get those little fabric claw things to hide the staples. I might also add some polished nickel studs on the bottom.

It was nice because the foam was $20 and the drop cloth was $11 so I wasn't too worried about messing up. It's not perfect, but I love it!

This will now be at the foot of our bed to hold our extra pillows at night, or Cleo has taken a liking to it. So maybe that means more room on the bed for us! Either way I see a WIN!

Let's be adventurers. I saw this quote/art here.... I had this old funky frame laying around.... So I found a font I liked and figured out how to print horizontal..... It seems like that should have been easier to figure out.... Drew and I talk often about the adventures we will go on, and the places we will see. Most of Drew's adventure day dreams start with, "It will be so fun to take the dogs to Europe... How do we. Get the dogs into Costa Rica..." um, what? All of my travel daydreams start with dropping the dogs off somewhere.... This boy and his dogs....

As of right now we will take any adventure that gets us out of our neighborhood.... A hike up to Stewart Falls by our cabin always hits the spot.... One of my favorite places...

To many more bigger and better adventures, and loving the little ones along the way!
