Accent Color on Trim...

Thank heavens we are past the era of red accent walls. I have this theory... People are so petrified by color that they paint everything in their house one color. White or beige... They are so bored of it and see color they like and start to feel like they want change. Instead of easing into a nice subtle color they jump straight to red, burgundy or maroon. They hate it and go back to beige... Missing all the wonder that is color.

Today I'm focusing on accent color. Not to be confused with accent walls. I can appreciate accent walls as long as trim is involved. I will show you what I'm talking about below. More specifically accent colors on trim. The most common trim is either white or stained. I'm going to show some of my favorite accent trim. In the picture above my favorite part aside from the color, is the paint continues onto the trim below the window. I really like the panes on the door.

A subtle dash of color on the window casing, rail and stile. It's also interesting to me that they put the tub faucet in front if the tub instead of behind by the window.

More accent paint in casing. The color is a perfect accent to the wood on the counter and table. They really compliment each other. I love the simplicity of the stool only finish on the window, no apron needed. It's a nice clean look.

I would sit in the sunroom all day. I would for sure have my own aspen tree trunks as decor. I love this color.

The ceiling... Oh the ceiling! Don't forget your ceiling when adding color to your home. It's such an unexpected way to bring life into a room. We have loved our blue ceiling. It makes the room feel taller, gives it an extra dimension.

The grey on the bottom of these false beams makes your eye really stretch to see into the soffit. I am really taken by colored trim, it makes more sense to me to have the color on the bottom where little hands and dog noses are going to rub. And white above to make the room not feel top heavy.

Here's the accent wall I was talking about. The tongue and groove highlighted by the perfect peacock blue. Not a color for the faint of heart.

I really like the look of mixing stain with paint. Some might feel like its like mixing metals and a no go... I say it's a do!

Again grey wainscot with light walls. What I don't love in this picture is the trim that wraps around from the headers. I think it shortens the room too much. Stops your eye before it can see the awesome wallpapered ceiling.

Blue paneling. I really like the shelf they built into the trim. Clever clever.

(via)

Trim built around the medicine cabinet. Gorgeous! I really like those sconces too!

(via)

All white except the ornate crown/tray ceiling.

This one is the same idea as above. All white with just the grey trim on the opening.

This mantle is one of the greats! The dark grey outer mantle. Yes please! It really centers the room. I love the steps the low set windows give. And the canvas chairs and ottoman. It's a perfect room.

Tubing Soldier Hollow

I bought a groupon a month a go for tubing at Soldier Hollow. We used our groupon for our anniversary Palooza. We had so much fun. Two hours for $10 you can't beat that.

It was cold but we were bundled. The view was incredible, the sun was fantastic and the air was clean and clear. Happy 5 years to us!

Love the patina on this wood. Look at that sky! Slays me!

Valentine Pillow....

Love a good holiday pillow! I made a heart pillow to add to my valentine decor. I saw some I liked online but I had given my mom back her sewing machine that I held hostage the month of December to sew this and this. So I wasn't too sure how I would finish this craft. Then I law of attractioned this $9 sewing machine from Savers. (I will convince someone to thrift if its the last thing I do!!!) Done!
And as luck would have it... Two yards of red corduroy fabric for $1.00... Thank you Savers!

$8.00 later because I used my 20% off coupon I was on my way to sewing heaven.

I used drop cloth scraps that I always seem to have on hand. Folded it in half and cut a half heart...

Ta-da...

Setting that aside I cut a square of red and laid it on top of the drop cloth. I had already cut my drop cloth to the size pillow I wanted.

On one side I found the (almost) middle and used my heart outline as a stencil.

I traced inside with a pencil, then sewed with a zig zag stitch around my line.

Yup...

I cut the excess redd off the back, not a necessary step but whatevs...

Then I sewed around the sides of the pillow leaving a two inch opening in a corner so I could turn it right side out and stuff it.

Them I trimmed around the inside of my zig zag stitching about a 1/4".... I might trim it closer but this is it for now! Then I brushed along the edge clear nail polish to keep it from unraveling.

My happy heart pillow!

Love it!

Friday Fun...

Who told you?? Hope our pups never find out!

(via)

I told my granny this joke and we laughed....

(via)

I was in a sorority in college (Chi-O till I die-O)... Loved it and loved my friends that I affectionately referred to as rental friends! Well the site above skips all the formality and naked hazing of frats and sororities! Call it what it is... Rental friends!

(via)

I like cool looking stuff! So obviously I need this apple slicer!

(via)

Realistic 3D drawings... People are awesome!

(via)

Bandaid not the right size? Print your own!

(via)

Earliest photoshop pictures! In the 1800s they layered negatives to be able to have a chopped head look.... Neat!

This made me laugh... I can relate...

This will be on our next phones and iPads.... Brilliant!

Love looking at this catalogue for 1950s kitchens...

This is a clever use of space...

A boat as a roof.... I can get behind this logic...

Happy Friday!

Pucker Up...

Oh boy.... Having walls and furniture has created a decorating monster...
Sorry for the crappy iphone pics... We are rolling in late... Or late for us rather, yep 10 PM... Watch out...
What was I talking about? ah yes... Decorating... I took some quick picks of my chalkboard this month... Here was December...

I started out with an outline and was tempted to leave it... You know when you just keep going with a craft.... And you take it too far, the next thing you know... It's ruined...

There was a day in high school that I was going to mod podge some notebooks with a friend.... In theory it could have turned out adorable... It did not... It was almost offensive how awful it turned out... I think the whole day ended with decoupaging our faces... Wow tangent city...

Anyway... I went for it and I love it!

I'll get a better picture later... Along with my target $1 section binge I went on... Best thing I've ever done!

Office Day...

Our anniversary was splendid thank you for asking... We had a simple day today and have a full day of fun coming Friday! But now.... Offices.... I love a good office. I love looking at pictures of offices and seeing how people organize all their goods... And seeing all the goods I need!
This desk has to be my absolute favorite... It does remind me a touch of Jim from The Office's mega desk... Just a touch... What I love is the mix of finishes, layers and mix of styles. The stained wood next to metal legs! I die!

(via)

This looks feminine, but a swap of the curtains and some accessories it can be more gender neutral... I love a good grey!

(via)

No way around this one... It's all girl and all good! I love the gold LOVE print from Made By Girl.... The turquoise skull is a need on my list... And the fuchsia tipped stag head needs to make its way into my home...

(via)

So much to like in this office... What I first noticed was the paint colors... Dark gray walls, light grey cabinets, white floor and blue/green ceiling... The desk with a roll of paper, giant glass jar of tape and the balance lamps framing the desk are all delightful...

What steals the show for me in this office is the yellow of the National Geographics, over the tufted coral love seat... Such a warm soft touch in a dark rigid room.

(via)

Polka dot oil cloth desktop... Yes please. I think the wrapped rope light is a fun touch.

Oh this office.... This office.... I need... The mix of furniture rehabbed to look unique yet uniform... The center turquoise island desk with all that shelving and storage...

(via)

I love how they wrapped the gallery wall on each wall of the corner. And the baby desk is perfect for the itty entrepreneur...

This is how my future office will look... The stain grade opening to paint grade... All that wood work makes me swoon!

(via)

And Dutch door opening... Give me a break.... It's perfect!

I love the huge inspiration board... In my opinion an inspiration board can't be too big. The bamboo chairs are wonderful as well!

I like how they have a straight lined bottom with their gallery art...
A Cloffice! You know I love a Cloffice! Especially with wallpaper!

(via)

A creative use of space gets me going! As do those glasses full of prismacolor markers... I need I need! And those are some of my office inspirations!

Need help with your office? Shoot me an email! I would love to help.

It's Our Anniversary!

It's our anniversary! Hooray us! And I'm just as madly in love with Drewpy as I was the day we tied the knot... Dare I say more in love!
If I had remembered our anniversary earlier... i.e. Drew and I both remembered yesterday... I would have bought a pretty little card... Or two... One from me and one too me....

Have you seen the Strong Men Valentine stuff at Target? Absolutely darling! I just looked online for a half hour and can't find it... Ugh...
