Mini Faux Taxidermy DIY

I came across a glittered stag ornament in the sale section of Target.

Adorable... Too adorable to be out away after Christmas.

I found a wood rosette (aka the thing you mount on the wall where a banister dies into a wall.) at a thrift store and brought it home and slapped two coats of paint on it.

Then I cracked open some of my Gorilla Glue that I won! I used the super glue because it dries fast, strong and has no expansion.

I waited 15 minutes.... ....

Fresca to show size....

Super glued three teeny tiny magnets on the back and it's the perfect accent to my magnet board....

See the little guy up in that corner? Love!

Wood Floors...

I traveled through Europe the summer after my senior year of high school. We hit the tourist hit spots and saw some incredible place, art and spaces. I can't wait to take Drewpy back. There was one piece of art that really hit me. Not the Mona Lisa.... I found that very underwhelming. It was, The Floor Planers. Or Les Raboteurs de parquet by Gustave Caillebotte. It was the one postcard/piece of art (besides the snow patrol skiers in their speedo bottoms, because that's just funny!) I bought. I couldn't tell you why I loved it so much I just did.

Moving on to today I was watching Drew install an engineered, click in, floating wood floor. An interesting material that gets you the look. It would not be the material I out in my dream home, but I can see the benefits it has. I was studying up on the history of wood floors. I like to know the original intent of a feature in a home to best maximize its look.
Wood floors like most materials in homes were used for insulation and only found in the wealthiest of homes. From what I can find they started out as wide planks and quickly moving to parquet pattern for the wealthy. They even started to glue wood planks onto canvas and roll it out onto floors. Nailing in every few feet.

In my lifetime I think I saw a trend from thin plank wood, to medium plank wood. Real hardwood to engineered look-a-like. I am seeing a trend in some of the higher end homes going back to wood with design. It's something people see as trendy. I disagree. I think it's trending... But if done right, timeless.

(via)

One of the first treatments they did on hardwood was paint. Also coming back. With slow growth wood they simply let people's feet, wear and tear polish their floors. That's a look I would be interested to see come back.

(via)

Original floors were given a V groove on the edge of each plank. Quickly that was ruled out for a more seamless look. I kind of love the look of a notched floor but would hate to keep it clean. Imagine all the gunk build up in the groove.

Oh but I love the character and charm of reclaimed lumber floors. So much charm. I think a big mistake homeowners make when picking wall color is discounting the effect the color of the floor will have on the walls or vice versa. Your flooring is you second greatest amount of color next to your walls That is a lot of color or shade to take into consideration. What could look tan on a swatch, when set next to the floor will look red or yellow. It's fascinating to see how different paint looks in different spots.

The floor above is dynamite. All those imperfections. The various plank size. And the stain... I want!

For my dream home, as of this minute... Ask me in two days and it will be a different story I'm sure... Is either super wide plank floors, or the opposite, narrow 1.5" planks. I think those create the most dimension in a home.

What do you think? Thin, wide, engineered, real wood?

Valentopia.... Or that's what Target wants me to call it...

Oh boy! I'm a holiday decorating addict! Give me some walls and I'll slap some holiday decor on it! I went with a friend to Target to find some Valentine's goodies, and find them we did! I raided the dollar section of all Target's felt decor. It's absolutely adorable!
I snaked the last XOXOXO felt bunting... And didn't think twice about it! This felt garland found its home on my thrifted mirror.
There is something about these Springer Spaniels.... They love a good photobomb! Here are some of Polly's greatest sneaks here and here...

Yes the Be Mine bunting was also in the dollar section. Seriously Target.... You're blowing my mind...

I have been on the hunt for a fake little tree to decorate for every holiday. I found the perfect gold tree at Pier 1 for 50% off. Can't beat that. It will be perfect to hang little eggs from for Easter! Shamrocks for St. Patrick's... The list goes on and on.... I found these hearts at Savers for pennies and glued some bakers twine on the top and put them on my tree!

Love them!

Love them, but hate the photo quality...

Kind of looks like we forgot to turn off our fog machine... Oh what? Maybe we did...

My ikea Lerberg unit is getting over decorated... Some editing must done...

Onto the kitchen... My chalkboard is still lips... I love them... I have yet to replace my calendar from last year. I loved it so much I can't find one I like as much as I did that one... So I hung up a craft my friend talked me into... I was scurred.... I am crazy about how it turned out. I first had it as a bunting, but like how I can see the details when they are displayed like this.

Taped up on my reclaimed window.

The details.... We spent some quality time in a craft store picking out cute paper, ribbon, stickers, ric rac, etc. etc.

We glued the paper on top of some playing cards and them layered on the cute.

And left some of the heart cards plain Jane and adorable.

What cute craft is complete without a teeny tiny clothes pin? You tell me!

Happy Valentine decorating to me and you!

Friday Fun...

(via)

How cool is this igloo? How cool is this mom? Bridgid Burton started by filling up cardboard milk cartons with water and food coloring then leave them out to freeze... 150 hours later they DIYed themselves to a rainbow igloo. Awesome!

I love Winnie the Pooh. My grandparents used to babysit me every Monday after my mom got home from working the Sunday graveyard shift at the hospital. Every Monday my grandpa and I would watch Winnie the Pooh together. And then make a trip to the toy store. Always under the pretense that we were "just looking"... We would come home and I would spend the rest of the afternoon wrapped around my grandpa's leg, sitting on his foot. While my granny read stories and made the worlds best peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. All wrapped up with one last Winnie the Pooh. The best times.
I love seeing the actual toys that inspired the stories...

I would love to have a completely energy efficient, self sustaining house. One day... There are amazing ways to better use our resources.

You better believe we FaceTime and call our pups when one of us is away. How darling is this confused boxer pup?

The cutest pair of English Springer Spaniels you ever did see. Snuggling in sawdust wall Drew builds his built-in... I will say for the little I know about tools I am blown away by the Festool track saw... More to come.
There are pussy willows growing on one of our aspen trees... Global weirding...

Oh what? Happy gorilla glue to me! I won a contest on the diystudio.com and this was one of the awesome prizes. Drew has already gone through my gorilla wood glue! Again more to come!

Happy Friday!

Festool

Our lives have changed and we don't even know it.... Or something like that was said by Drew as he was on his way home from Woodcraft with his new Festool. I cannot tell you the number of times we have talked about festools, festool track saws or visited festoolusa. I will admit learning about this told it does seem to be pretty incredible. The festool dust extractor system seems to be worth it's weight in gold. Drew started his festool addiction with the festool ts 75.

The track system appears to be genius. I have seen some other brands coming up with their own versions. They don't seem to be as precise as the festool. I would love to know the comparisons if someone has tried them? Drew got right to work cutting boards for a built in.

Here is Drew's google sketchup for the built-in.

(via)

From what Drew described to me it will look something like the window seat above. Awesome! I am going to try and get a good tutorial going for this project. Drew gets into a groove when he is working and doesn't have much time for pictures. We're working on it!

I asked Drewpy after his first few cuts if the festool was everything he hoped for. He said "better"... Oh boy, we may have created a monster!
