Valentine Toast...

Drew is at the tail end of a project... And I will have lots of goods to share.... The trim is getting delivered tomorrow... That's where Drew will create a masterpiece....

As for now... This morning we had this egg and toast... No one day holiday celebration in this house! Super easy to make, just cut a heart out of bread with a cookie cutter. And then cracked an egg in the middle on a hot pan. Done... Wife of the year.... Self nominated...

I downloaded the vine app... And I'm just getting the feel for it... We'll see could be my next addiction. Obviously just another way to over share my life. This time in a looped 6 second video.

There are some gems like this scooter riding pooch...

Or my tile vid...

Or better yet 6 seconds of Cleo hearing Drew's truck... And greeting her daddy!

Do you vine? Feel free to follow along...

Friday Fun...

(via)

When I was sitting in my stats class I would spend my time looking at design blogs and studying floor plans... This quote rings true...

(via)

I bet Drew thinks this 20x on a project... I tend to hover and watch what he is doing. More often than not getting in the way.

(via)

Amen... I need to get out of town...

Oh Lesley Knope.... I heart you!

The article said, the family kept coming home to water all over. Thinking kids were sneaking in to swim they installed a security camera.... Who knows, it's funny no matter what....

This article made me tear up. A must read for everyone, but especially for Moms of little boys....

Why beige is not best... Article here...

I knew Harry Potter was real...invisibility cloak yes please!

What does a red hit ball of nickel dropped into water sound like? Here...

Ikea Hack...

Our sneak peak at the built in Drew is working on turned out to be very popular. We had quite a few request come in. Drew's cousin (hey Lindsay!) was asking about a more DIY storage solution. I had just read Centsational Girl's post about taking an ikea billy bookcase and making it look custom. I thought I would share it with everyone....

Her tutorial is excellent and you should check it out.

She actually has done two. Both are great.

Crown moulding, face framed and baseboard it looks incredible!

I have a client who is adding the Hemnes dresser to her living room. I would love to add this (can't find the original source... Help!) to the back to take it from stock to fabulous.

All sorts of ways to customize ikea furniture and make it your own!

Before I talk my husband out of work, I will remind you. Ikea furniture will not last as long. It doesn't have any actual wood to keep the lines straight and strong. There is only so much "customizing" you can do with the standard sizes they give you.

And last but not least... You can't overload your ikea furniture!

On My Nightstand...

Or make that, on my phone... Where'd You Go Bernadette, blew my mind! I will be honest.... I picked this book solely because I loved the cover. They say you can't judge a book by its cover... That's basically how I choose 90% of the books I read.

Back to my book... Seriously, this book was right up my alley! A story about an award winning woman architect. Awarded for her brilliance in designing and building the "20 mile home". The challenge she gave herself was to complete an entire home with materials found from no further than 20 miles away. Not including a big box store that may have gotten its materials shipped to them. A concept I had been thinking about well before I read the book. Anytime I we worked on something in our house I tried to find it used.

Our soaker tub was a misfit from someone's job. Our bathroom floor tile was surplus from a tile job. Our doors were tear outs from a 100 year old home that were just going to go straight to a landfill. Our bathroom vanity we repurposed from an entertainment center a client wanted Drew to throw away. Our furniture is all second hand. Even some of our trim was repurposed from our bed. (Look how I segwayed into talking about myself.... Clever...)

I want spoil any more of the book, but lets say her social anxiety hit close to home too! I'm telling you.... The book spoke to me!

Enjoy!

Google Sketchup...

Drew has been teaching me how to use Google Sketchup... He took drafting and autoCAD classes, so he picked up on it right away. Above is a house that he has been working on for a client. The house as it stands now has a flat awning and smaller porch. No shingles and small iron posts. This was Drew's solution to make the porch a better focal point for the home.

This is a mudroom, locker system Drew designed. He took a totally blank wall and made it functional space.

A pavilion concept Drew was working on for a neighbor who actually ended up moving. Drew did end up pouring the concrete walkway which would have led up to this before he moved. Basically the same thing. Drew is a Google Sketchup wizard....

This floorplan.... Oh this floor plan... It may look simple but it was true inspiration. Lets see if I can explain in words what the image is above... Drew was asked to come look at a home that some clients were thinking about buying. The floor plan as it was left much to be desired. When you walked in the front door you looked into the hallway right into the bathroom. Just like it is in the floor plan at the top. It was moved to the right wall of the bathroom hidden in the hallway (shown in BLUE). The home had an addition that left the ENTIRE right side of the drawing as a bedroom (YELLOW). It was so long and just a bunch of useless dead space. Drew in his brilliance saw the layout as it shows above... Moving the doorway down the hall. Then adding a master bath and walk in closet! All in what was originally just an awkwardly long room. Hard to explain, but it made the home amazing! That guys a gosh darn genius!

And here are my first attempts.... Hooray!

A chair! Brilliant! I guess I'll get back to my YouTube tutorials and become a Google Sketchup Pro... See what I did there?
